How to Use DiDi Ride-Hailing in China as a Foreigner

DiDi is China's largest ride-hailing platform. This guide shows you how to book a ride using the DiDi mini-program inside Alipay.

When traveling in China, DiDi is the recommended ride-hailing app. It is China’s largest platform with wide city coverage, plenty of drivers, and fast pickup times — saving you a lot of hassle.

How to Use DiDi Inside Alipay

You do not need to download a separate DiDi app. Just use the DiDi mini-program built into Alipay:

  1. Open Alipay and search for Didi or 滴滴 in the top search bar
  2. Tap the DiDi mini-program to open it
  3. Enter your pickup location and destination
  4. Choose a vehicle type (Express, Premium, etc.) and tap Call

  • The mini-program supports English, making it easy for foreign visitors
  • Payment is linked to your Alipay account — no extra setup needed
  • Enter your destination before the car arrives so the driver can follow navigation from the start
